    Pre-Allstar info

Hi Parents! We've been fielding a lot of AllStar questions - so thought it would be helpful to send out what information we have. The season has been shortened this year, with AllStars taking place before July 4th - so the timing is much more condensed than previous years. Hopefully this basic info will give everyone time to plan.

AllStar meet is on Sunday, June 30th - start time 8am - MCAC pool (uptown charlotte). Note - this is a change of location from previous years. Warmups start at 7:15, with doors opening at 6:45 - yup - it's REALLY early. More info to come on arrivals, parking, expectations, volunteers, etc.

AllStar roster and practice schedule will hopefully be announced this weekend (see below on info on team selection). Practices will be held in the morning and are fully optional for the swimmers selected.

If you have not updated your RSVP status for the AllStar meet - please do so ASAP.

*IMPORTANT* If your RSVP status changes - please let us know ASAP - we have limited flexibility in changing our roster and entries once it is submitted to the league.

    AllStar Info for New Families:

The AllStar meet is a 8-team meet where the a select group of swimmers from each team in our division compete against each other. We are limited to the amount of entries we submit (2 per individual event, 1 per relay event) - which limits the amount of swimmers we can take. Coach Chris will generate the roster as soon as RSVPs are fully updated (we're hoping by Sunday evening). Generally speaking, if your swimmer earns ribbons in multiple events during multiple meets, or is on an A-relay consistently, that's a good indication that they will be considered for the team. However, RSVPs also heavily impact the team selection. In addition to RSVP availability and speed - we also look for swimmers who consistently swim without any stroke infractions. The Allstar meet is officiated by USA Swimming. All infractions are reported by their officials which results in a much higher number of DQs during this meet (versus when parents volunteer during the regular season and we have a more relax standard focused on blatant infractions).

A note for Shrimper families - the AllStar meet does not have any shrimper specific events, so typically shrimpers do not make the team. If your shrimper is a top-swimmer in the other 8&u events, there is a small possibility they will make the team.

Alternate Swimmers - In addition to entered swimmers, we are also allowed to enter 2 alternate swimmers per event. These swimmers are on the official roster, attend the meet, and warmup with the team. However, they will only swim in an event if an entered swimmer becomes unavailable (due to sickness, emergency, etc) - sometimes we know this ahead of the meet, and sometimes it happens quickly right on the pool deck. We'll try to give parents/swimmers as much notice as possible when an alternate is called on to swim.

Spectators - all of our team members are welcome to attend the meet and cheer on the AllStar team!! Only AllStar swimmers, coaches, and specific volunteers will be allowed on the pool deck. All others will have a designated seating area.

Volunteers - just like any other meet, we are required to fill volunteer spaces at this meet. Info to come on that from Russell after the team has been announced.
